What is diabetes?

In simple terms diabetes prevents your body converting sugars and starches in your food into energy. The body uses insulin to do this. When diabetes is present the body fails to produce insulin or the insulin it does produce doesn’t work properly (insulin resistance).

The Diabetes Wellness Network is our growing group of subscribers with type 1 & type 2 diabetes or others with an interest in diabetes.

What are the different types of diabetes?

Reducing your weight and being physically active will reduce your insulin resistance, but you may need medication or to inject insulin to help.

Our research

Put simply, it is our ultimate goal to discover a cure for diabetes. We know that this is a long road but we are intent on maximising the potential by funding the highest quality clinical and scientific research at the very best research institutions in the UK and around the world.
