Lionel Curtis and Pauline Mathers received two certificates at recent neighbourhood awards bash.

Members of the Hull and District Diabetes Support Group have been recognised for their community outreach work at an awards ceremony.

Lionel Curtis and Pauline Mathers – who are DRWF supporters and regular volunteers at diabetes educational events – received two awards from the Neighbourhood Network Humberside, a collective of Hull-based groups who all have an interest in community safety.

Hull District Diabetes Support were shortlisted for the Bringing People Together and Health and Wellbeing award categories.

One nomination letter received by judges praised the group for working “tirelessly to gain funds for sustainability and put every effort into booking relevant and interesting speakers and that people who attend the group gain a huge benefit in knowledge”.

Lionel said: “We have been very fortunate being given awards over the past few years. I am so pleased to be connected to such a fantastic team DRWF.”

DRWF Event Coordinator Lee Calladine said: “It is wonderful to see Lionel, Pauline, and the Hull and District Diabetes Support Group win the two awards for all their dedicated work.

“They have been invaluable volunteers for DRWF at many of our Diabetes Wellness Events up and down the country and are much loved extended team members. Without their support, we could not have put on these patient education days so effectively. Not to mention the community outreach work they do, sharing many of our diabetes resources to people that need support and some friendly advice.”
