DRWF’s team of six cyclists recently took part in the RideLondon-Surrey 100 event.

Well done to all the cyclists who supported DRWF recently by taking part in the RideLondon-Surrey 100 ride.

A team of six cyclists recently took part in the event setting off from Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London, following a 100-mile route on closed roads through the capital and into the Surrey countryside before heading back to London for the finishing line at The Mall.

Among the cyclists taking part for DRWF were charity supporters and funded researchers from across the country.

They joined 25,000 amateur cyclists for the challenge and thanks to generous donation raised more than £3,000 for DRWF.

Jon Elburn, of Hicom, who cycled for DRWF, said: “Not only did taking part in this event mean that I got to help raise money for such a good cause, it also gave me a reason to train and stay healthy, which is all part of the message DRWF are promoting so I am proud to be supporting the excellent work that they’re doing.

“Two of my grandparents had diabetes and the condition had a big impact on my grandfather’s life, so anything that can be done to help find a cure or to help improve the lives of those managing the condition has to be a good thing.

“Type 2 diabetes is a growing problem, both in the UK and the developing world, but there are several simple things you can do to help prevent it.  One of them is exercise - so cycling is a great way to raise money and awareness at the same time.”
